Abstract

Assentos were abstract decisions handed down by portuguese courts during the Old Regime to establish autehentic interpretation on statutes and to reduce legal uncertainty in the face of existing contradictory interpretations. This paper presentes some assentos published by the High Court of Rio de Janeiro between 1752 and 1753.
